The Old Towns surrounding Caulonia Marina
Caulonia Old Town
The main village of Caulonia was ‘Old Caulonia’ up until the flood in 1851 when the people then started to move down to the seafront and build houses. There are 11 churches and a beautiful square. Time has stood still in this hilltop town where you can still see typical cobbled streets. There are a few shops, bars and a restaurant but most of the residents travel down to Caulonia Marina for their shopping and entertainment.
Stignano
The old town of Stignano is approximately twenty minutes drive from Caulonia Marina. It is very quaint sleepy old town with magnificent views of the hills and mountains which can be seen from Caulonia.

Isca Superiore
Located approximately 200 metres above sea level, the town is surrounded by magnificent greenery where you will pass age old olive groves on your way down to Isca Marina.

Badalato
Badalato is steeped in medieval history and has a wonderful architectural heritage. S. Caterina church was rebuilt in the 18th century has a wonderful 15th century Baroque interior. Many other fine works of art can be found in Badalato's churches.
Stilo
Founded in Greek times, Stilo is built on the slopes of Mount Consolino and overlooks the beautiful Ionian Sea. The remains of an 11th Century Norman Castle can be found there and the church of S. Francesco which has an incredible 15th century Calabria baroque interior. The Cattolica, which was built in the 10th century in the upper part of the town, is one of the oldest and best preserved Byzantine churches in Calabria.
Gioiosa Jonica
The old town of Gioiosa Jonica is approximately ten minutes drive from the seafront. The hub of the old town is the main square where you can sit and drink coffee with the locals and watch the world walk by.
There are a multitude of shops, cafes and bar and even a theatre where you can watch live Italian opera and a whole variety of shows during the year. In the summer there is often an outdoor stage erected to host evenings of live entertainment in the square.
